A countryside wedding is a whole different kind of thing. Away from cellphone reception, the urban jungle and the autobahn you are able to fully indulge in the festivities.

Here is where Annedore and Aaron decided to celebrate their wedding.

Recently I realized that I have known my friend Annedore as long as I have known my husband Matthias. When she introduced Aaron to us we immediately took him to our heart. Both of them take up a very special part in our lives. Being a guest at their wedding has been not only an honour but also a highly emotional matter. It was clear from the start as I was asked by them to do their cake buffet that I wanted to do an extra good job in creating the buffet of their dreams.

Annedore had a clear vision of the cake buffet but at the same time she was open to suggestions and advice and she gave me plenty of rope coming up with the decoration and presentation. The special thing about Annedore, which by the way I love about her, is that she enjoys trying new things. I am not talking about tastes but also of unconventional approaches. For instance why should everyone get a slice of wedding cake when instead you can have much more diversity on the buffet. The whole planning was a process of adding, adjusting and even eliminating things.

The buffet was inspired by the style of the invitation, the location of the wedding, the table decoration, flowers, the summer season and the likings of the bride and groom. The invitation said that the guests should feel free to wear something yellow. The color was also taken into account.

The reception was held in the Waldhotel in Laubach. The Cake Buffet was standing on a nearby lawn surrounded by tress that gave a perfect backdrop.

As for the likings of the bride and groom here a list of all the treats:

  • Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting and Candy Hearts (Annedore’s Favourite) (Recipe)
  • Maple Guiness Cupcakes with Guiness Buttercream und Caramelized Bacon (Aaron’s Favourite)
  • Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream garnished with Cocoa Nibs
  • Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream and Edible Flowers from Knospenkontor
  • Flamed Lemon Meringue Tarts with Homemade Lemoncurd
  • Courtesans au Vanilla
  • Ice Cream Wafers with Almond Rim filled with Chocolate and Berries garnished with Fresh Peppermint
  • Sweet and Salty Popcorn Balls on a Stick
  • Yellow Meringue Kisses
  • Wedding Cake: Vanilla Lavender filled with Homemade Berry Compote and Lavender Buttercream (Recipe from the Sweetapolita Blog)
  • Macarons (ordered from Macaraon)

Annedore was determined to offer a wide range as well as meet with traditional flavour expectations but at the same time offer familiar flavours. Aaron is not a sweet tooth at all. That is why salty options were on the menu too such as the Guiness Cupcake which is Aaron’s favorite beer. Because they married in summer we also included the Ice Cream Wafers with berries and the Lemon Meringue Tarts that were fresh alternatives to the creamy parts of the buffet.

As Annedore covered her mouth in surprise of the sight of the buffet I knew I hit the bull’s eye. When I asked her if everything was as she has imagined it she just replied: „I could never have imagined it that amazing!“

Thanks to my husband Matthias, my friends Harriet and Johannes who helped me setting everything up. Thank you very much, Johannes, for taking pictures which by no means I was able to do myself after three days of baking and decorating as well as the wonderful Anja from AKM Photography who also did an amazing job at taking pictures.
